Meet the New Boss, Same as the Old Boss

Well, well, well. Looks like we might not be getting all that much change after all.

A couple of thoughts about Obama’s seemingly-centrist emerging administration: First, if he governs fairly moderately, things will probably go fairly well for the country, and that is a good thing. We should be thankful when our leaders govern wisely, whether they’re the leaders we wanted or not.

Second, if he governs moderately, he will be breaking many, many campaign promises that got him elected. Troops will not be leaving Iraq in January (and they shouldn’t). Guantanamo Bay will probably not be closed (and it shouldn’t). Taxes won’t skyrocket (and they shouldn’t). On and on. If these things happen, people who voted for Obama should be very angry. My guess is that they won’t. He will probably be given credit for running a good administration. My frustration with that is that he’ll be keeping John McCain’s campaign promises and breaking his own.

But he is, after all, a new kind of politician. Right.
