  1. I found this part interesting: “the only way we know how to frame the question is, ‘Do you go to church and where?'”

    Encouraging “faith/church”, or some assemblance of it, is still the default litmus test.

    Not uniquely or originally American though, to think of church as the moral proxy; we can look to some European theologians/philosophers for originating those ideas. It appears America is still viewing religion, where Europe has largely left it in the dust, though I suspect we are not far behind.
